Kapala

Inspired by the traditional Tibetan ceremonial vessels known as Kapalas with their intricately hand-carved bone richly decorated with gold, silver, and precious stones.

Setting out to create my own Kapala I experimented with many design choices and symbolism as a representation of death and mortality along with the ascent of the soul encompassing the reincarnated into another circle of life.

Each piece is cast from my traditionally sculpted clay original before being silicone molded and cast in a high-quality two-part polyurethane resin. Once de-molded the resin sculptures are handpainted using a combination of detailed airbrush work and conventional brushwork.

The eyes are completely interchangeable, allowing you to dramatically change the appearance of the sculpture on the fly depending on your preference.
